A 42-year-old Redditor posting as f0r3aL84 put up a quiet, unusually vulnerable post in the Grand Theft Auto 6 subreddit titled "I hope I don't go blind before the game releases," sharing a story about a man racing his own eyes.

According to the user, he has been legally blind since he was two, from a stack of severe conditions, degenerative myopia, amblyopia, nystagmus, and cataracts among them, and the decline has gotten worse lately to the point that his left eye is nearly gone, the right is fading fast, and he now has to deal with double vision, floaters, and light so harsh that people outdoors dissolve into shadows. Doctors once told him he'd lose all sight by 26, but he beat that and figures he won't go completely blind until 59. In the middle of everything he's going through, his only wish right now is to finish the next Grand Theft Auto at least once before the literal light in his eyes go out.

Different from the fan who went viral from a hospital bed a couple of weeks ago who was racing death, this man is losing a sense. There's something uniquely cruel about the entire situation, that the biggest, most gorgeous open world title of his lifetime arrives just as his ability to fully see and enjoy it starts running out. The user admits he's not much of a gamer himself.

Rather, he's just a fan of the worlds Rockstar Games has created, and he wants to walk through a fully realised version of Vice City on modern consoles while he still can.

The comments section on Reddit did exactly what these threads always do, with hundreds of well-wishes and people sharing similar stories of their own. A handful even told him to reach out to Rockstar and ask for early access, pointing to the times a fan with a terminal illness reportedly got to play ahead of launch under an NDA . However, he pushed back against the idea, saying he called it a hassle and unwanted attention, saying he believes he will make it to release on his own.

Perhaps, instead of going viral, he simply wants to play the game like anyone else, on his own terms, without becoming a headline and a fundraiser, not that there's something wrong with one or the other.

What's more interesting here though is the fact that no one seemed to bother calling out Rockstar for making their games more accessible. While games like Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition include basic control remapping, aim assist, and subtitles, they don't have full screen-readers, blind-friendly navigation, or robust UI scaling, allowing a person with disability. Its menus and tiny on-screen text have frustrated players with far better eyesight than his for years, and requests have often fallen on deaf ears.

For a game built up and hyped for us to enjoy for a decade, that is a fair thing to want an answer to, and it would help far more people than any single act of charity ever could.

None of this is his problem to solve. He's not wishing for Rockstar to add more features to GTA 6 . He merely shared his story, even admitting he doesn't know why he posted it at all.
