I may be about to say something blasphemous, but one of my least favourite things about previous GTA games is escaping the cops.
I know, it’s basically the entire point of the game, but I’ve just never found it fun. Once pursued, you basically just drive your car as fast as you can, and try to avoid any police that spawn in your general vicinity.
But I’m obsessed with the new Wanted system in GTA 6 , which seems to have a lot more nuance to it.
You may have noticed there are a bunch of icons underneath the title’s iconic ‘Stars’ which depict a variety of different details.
And a fan account has put out an explanation of each one:
So there’s a lot going on here, but this ultimately communicates to me that there will be different ways to escape.
Changing clothes, for example, or covering your face may give you plausible deniability.
Taking out security cameras, or even splitting up could help you get away with the crime.
This appears to iterate on the work done in RDR 2 , where you could bribe witnesses and pay off bounties. Obviously GTA 6 is set during the modern day, so different systems are required.
I’m just pleased to see Rockstar put some work into this, because I think it’s one of the most tired aspects of GTA 5’s gameplay loop, even if many of that game’s sandbox elements remain impressive today.
It’s also a reminder that GTA 6 is not all just flashy graphics and groundbreaking animations; there’s a lot going on under-the-hood from a systemic level that’s going to help make this feel next-gen.
I can’t wait to get into my first pursuit and explore all of the new escape options available to me.
