By Ray Ampoloquio · Sep 10, 2026 Updated by Hassan Sajid · Sep 10, 2026 Nintendo will launch its Ocarina of Time remake on Switch 2 on November 5, just two weeks before GTA 6 hits PS5 and Xbox on November 19.
This November we will find out what happens when an unstoppable generational force in Grand Theft Auto VI meets an immovable nostalgia-blast of an object in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time .
At its 40th anniversary Direct, Nintendo confirmed that the remake of the 1998 classic will launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, exactly two weeks before GTA 6 arrives on November 19 . It is the only major release willing to brave the hype-fueled storm surrounding the next Grand Theft Auto and Nintendo does not seem remotely worried about it
We mapped out November and found a graveyard months ago. Now, there are two giants. Beyond GTA 6 and now Ocarina of Time , the month is down to a Godzilla remaster, a small roguelike, and whatever Devolver Digital is releasing .
Publishers have spent the entire year treating GTA 6 's launch window like a no-fly zone and not without reason . Nintendo looked at the same window and shrugged.
The two juggernauts land close together, but they barely compete for the same players.

The shrug makes sense. It's not really a head-to-head, metaphorical comparisons aside. GTA 6 is a PS5 and Xbox game and the Ocarina remake is a Switch 2 exclusive, so it's not like they'll be on competing platforms.
Even the audiences only partly overlap, as one is an all-ages single-player adventure and the other is an M-rated open-world crime epic. Besides, a beloved 40th-anniversary remake of one of the most acclaimed games ever made is about as review-proof and evergreen as releases get. It does not need to win November. It just needs to be there.
Nintendo did not necessarily pick this date to poke Rockstar Games either. The original Ocarina of Time launched in November 1998, so a November 2026 remake arrives right on its own anniversary, which is the quietly telling part.
The only company unbothered by the biggest launch in gaming is the one that does not compete with it. This is Nintendo living on its own island as usual, doing its own thing while the rest of the industry rearranges its entire calendar around Rockstar. Everyone else fled because they had to. Nintendo stayed because it could .
